How to Stay in the Room When Your Mind Tells You to Leave
Picture this:
You’ve just been double-promoted. You’re walking into your very first board meeting now as a project manager, surrounded by high-level executives. The stakes? Astronomically high. Missed deadlines, pressure mounting, and every eye on you.
You dress the part. You hope your sharp look will speak louder than the tremble in your voice.
That was Vanetta Morrison, years ago.
An introvert by nature, Vanetta wasn’t new to the nerves that came with speaking up. But this-this new role, new room, new responsibility was next level. The pressure to perform was deafening. And the voice in her head was screaming:
"Get out of the way before you mess this up."
But here’s what’s remarkable: she stayed.
She didn’t run.
She observed.
She studied her patterns and the patterns of the people around her.
And most of all, she did the inner work.
Nine years later?
Vanetta is the founder of The Blueprint Way, a coaching and counselling platform helping Black women thrive emotionally so they can show up boldly in life, love, and leadership.
She’s also the author of Me, Myself & Imposter Syndrome, a powerful guide that dives deep into how imposter syndrome uniquely affects Black women, and how we can reclaim our mental space and rise with power.
Reflection:
You know that feeling…
The moment your name is called or your voice is needed, but everything in you wants to shrink, to disappear, to let someone else take the lead.
Your mind whispers, “You don’t belong here.”
And yet, you do.
Whether it’s your first boardroom, a major pitch, or simply a new level in your business journey, the room gets quieter, and the self-doubt gets louder. But here’s the truth:
You are not an impostor. You’re a pioneer.
So if you've ever had to silence the voice of fear just to stay seated in the space you worked hard to enter, know you're not alone.
This week’s story is a reminder that you’re more powerful than your doubt, and that staying in the room is already a victory worth celebrating.
You deserve to be here. You earned your seat. Now take up space fully.

Affirmation of the Week
Let’s take some inspiration from our Spotlight of the day. For everyone who feels fear is taking over their heart and stopping them from fully blooming, here’s something to remind yourself today:
"I refuse to let my mind be my biggest bully. Instead, I choose to make it my greatest cheerleader"
Say it. Believe it. Repeat it.
Your mind can either shrink you or stretch you. This week, choose power.
